First two minutes of Lucif Kiel

Here is the first two minutes to Lucif Kiel:

Critical Reflection

Throughout the process of the making of the film, my production skills were increased. I learned how to use my software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects much better. I learned different ways to hold a hand held camera to get the steadiest shot. For my hardware, I used a handheld camera that was purchased at Best Buy and for software I used Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects. Premiere is a software where I was able to edit and place my footage where I wanted it and After Effects was used to change the coloring of the intro and also I applied a stabilization to the shot. My product is going to be engaged to my audience through an mp4. My product is going to represent the issue of schizophrenia and diseases similar to it, since the main character is being effected by it.

Music

Quentin Tarantino has always been an inspiration to me, and is one of the reasons why I am in love with film. This is why I like to read and listen to interviews with him so I could get tips and tricks on how to make a good film. In the "Tarantino Collection" he states,
"One of the things I do when I am starting a movie, when I'm writing a movie or when I have an idea for a film; is, I go through my record collection and just start playing songs, trying to find the personality of the movie, find the spirit of the movie. Then "boom" eventually I'll hit one, two or three songs“ or one song in particular, oh this will be a great opening credit song." Click

for a link to the whole interview.

This was one of the main reasons why I pushed so hard to get the copyrights to the song "I don't want to set the world on fire" by the Ink Spots. When I was first coming up with a movie idea, I sat listened to my music archive of over 5,000 songs, ranging from Kendrick Lamar to The Beatles to Frank Sinatra. When this song came on, it clicked in my head. I immediately felt a connection and a mood and feeling toward the film with this song and I knew if I couldn't get this song, it was back to the drawing boards. But as of last week, the publishing company got back to me and confirmed that I could use their song based on a couple of conditions. One, I am not allowed to distribute the film for any profit without the consent of the company. Two, I have to include their name.

Now that I have permission to use the song, the film will be set as scheduled and the original plot will be used.

Trailers

The best way for any director of any movie to try to lure in an audience to see his or her film is by trailers. Trailers is what gets people amped for movies. I know when "The Dark Knight" trailer came out, I watched that thing like a hundred times. It's good to think about your trailer even before you start filming, so you know what shots to include for your film. For this reason, I did extensive research on the best trailers of all time. If you click HERE, thats a link to some of the best trailers of all time. Since my films genre is suspenseful and mysterious, I decided to base most of my research off of some trailers in that genre. Here are a couple of my favorites.

Special Effects

Special effects is no easy task for any film. It takes a lot of information and knowledge on certain programs on how to make the effects you need. I have Adobe After Effects and I also have Adobe Premiere Pro, which I am certified for. But when it comes to after effects, I'm not an expert. For this reason, this is why I used video copilot.net for help.

Here, creator Andrew Kramer has over one hundred tutorial videos on how to use special effects on Adobe After Effects. This is where I made my production company logo. Just a quick 10 second video takes hours to make. Heres what it looks like when it is being edited in Adobe After Effects.

Still debating on changing the color, but that will be a last minute decision.

Copyright Music

Early this week, I was watching an interview with one of my favorite directors Quentin Tarantino on the Howard Stern Show. Mr.Tarantino said that he loves music and music plays a key role in all his film. He said that each song is put in at certain moments and each song has a certain meaning which is why it is meticulously put in each scene.
I feel very strongly toward this way of film making. For the beginning of my film, I wanted to use the song "I want to set the world on fire" by the Ink Spots. Of course, this song is copyrighted and I need to get permission to use it. So, what I did was a first did research to find what music group owns the rights to the song. Since the song is an older song, it was very tricky to find who has the rights. So I took a shot in the dark and emailed Universal Music Group and two days later, got a reply.

I have sent an email to all the emails provided and if I don't get a reply in about two days, I will then call the numbers provided. If we are unable to reach an agreement, I will either have to find another song or make my own.

The Beginning

Picking a plot and writing a film is one of the most overlooked aspects of film making. This process is essential to a good film, since a strong story means for a good film. Many story writers have different techniques for making a film, but mine was very simple.
I first decided to make the main character. I have come up with an 18 year old name Lucif Kiel. He is not your ordinary 18 year old. Lucif suffers from schizophrenia, or at least thats what his doctor told him. Randomly, his mind is taken over by some force and he isn't able to recognize what is real, which sometimes results in him hurting or even killing others.
Now that I have my main character and I have an issue that the main character needs to overcome, my story will now come to me smoothly. I will now have to come up with the rest of the story which will take a couple of days, but I'm not going to release to much information. Don't want to ruin the story for you.

One movie where the main character suffers from schizophrenia is "American Psycho" which stares Christian Bale. To learn some some things to include in my film, I am going to watch this film in great depth and analyze the shots and techniques they used to help convey the main characters problems.
